DESCRIPTION

The Metal Tech "Armor" series of products consist of perforated metal outer layers applied mechanically to one or both sides of a compressible center layer material. Available with carbon or stainless steel, the high strength steel outer layer protects the inner sealing layer for long term performance. Armor is typically used in robust, high temperature applications where scrubbing due to thermal expansion is a concern. Based on your application needs, Armor can withstand or dissipate extreme heat. These products can be considered for designing both gaskets and heat shielding. 

AR 400 - VERMICULITE FIBER CORE

Protection for long-term performance and durability where fretting, scrubbing, and flange motion is a concern, thermally insulative for shielding applications.

AR 897 - HIGH TEMP FIBER CORE

Rated to over 1900°F, features a rock-wool based center layer for thermal resistance, withstands extreme conditions where other materials break down.

AR 925 - OXIDATION RESISTANT GRAPHITE CORE

Moves heat away from hot spots to reduce the chances of oxidation and burnout in hot joints, recommended for use in high performance exhaust manifold applications and other extreme uses, provides heat management due to the thermal conductivity of the graphite core.

CORSEAL (CS)

DESCRIPTION

The Metal Tech "Corseal" series features a rectangular perforation pattern. This pattern has nearly twice the perforations per square inch as the starburst pattern, proving more contact points to grip the facing. It should be used for gaskets where land area is tight to be sure that there is a bond point in the cross section. This core also compresses at lower loads resulting in approximately 10% more compressibility over the same facing on the Hi-Tex core. This is advantageous when designing head gaskets or other critical fluid sealing gaskets. This core technology is commonly used for head gaskets, intake gaskets, engine fluid gaskets, cover gaskets, and general industrial flange gaskets.

GRAPHITE: CS 980 - OXIDATION RESISTANT GRAPHITE

Recommended for OEM exhaust flange gasket applications, cylinder head gaskets, and other performance driven uses. 

HIGH TEMPERATURE FIBER: CS 365 - GENERAL PURPOSE

Wide range of performance while providing economical benefit for the user where costs are critical. 

HIGH TEMPERATURE FIBER: CS 794 - PERFORMANCE FIBER

High performance material with excellent thermal properties, sealability, and fluid resistance for use in head gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, and other sealing applications.

HI-TEX (HT)

DESCRIPTION

The Metal Tech "Hi-Tex" series features our specially designed "starburst" core tang technology. This robust metal core, available in carbon or stainless steel, provides optimum strength for the laminate in the most demanding applications. The starburst pattern provides 3-4 contact points around the tang and a columnar shape, providing excellent load retention and crush resistance. This technology is best used for high temperature or high load applications such as engine exhaust systems, where sufficient flange loading is available and load retention is required. Generally, the grades in this series are designed for applications such as exhaust manifolds, turbocharger applications, exhaust system gaskets, head gaskets, general industrial flange applications, etc.

SURBOND (SB)

DESCRIPTION

"Surbond" is Metal Tech's solid core laminate series. It features a thermal-set, adhesively-bonded laminate with excellent resistance to many fluids. Bond strength and quality are excellent and a variety of grades are available. Using solid core metal, generally carbon steel, the facing material is chemically bonded in our exclusive process. The result is a robust material for fluid gasket applications. Surbond provides steel reinforcement for rigidity in the fabrication and handling of the gasket as well as long-term performance in the completed joint. Additional stiffness provided by the metal core makes a good gasket even better. 

SOLID METAL CORE: SB 448 - MULTI-PURPOSE FLUID RESISTANCE

Offers outstanding resistance to water, coolant, oil and fuels.

SOLID METAL CORE: SB 582 - PERFORMANCE LAMINATE ON SOLID CORE

High density, high rubber content facing for excellent performance in tough environments, solid core version of the SB 590 product.

SOLID METAL CORE: SB 643 - VERSATILE PERFORMER

Universal material that can be used in a variety of applications, provides excellent sealability and conformance to flanges; available in 6 thicknesses. 

SOLID METAL CORE: SB 643-AL - ALUMINUM CORE

Excellent performance and six thicknesses available with solid aluminum core for a corrosion resistant option, particularly suited for marine applications. 

SOLID METAL CORE: SB 922 - PROVEN DOMESTIC GRAPHITE

Ideal choice where long service life is essential to reduce down time and replacement is difficult, used when flange load is less than tang core applications and good conformance is needed. 

EXPANDED METAL CORE: SB 590 - HIGH DENSITY, HIGH PERFORMANCE

Offers excellent fluid resistance and withstands flange movement, outstanding recovery to retain torque loads during scrubbing and vibration, recommended for use in fluid sealing applications.

TECHCOAT (TC)

DESCRIPTION

"TechCoat" is Metal Tech's series of specialty coatings for improved gasket performance. TechCoat enables the designer to provide enhanced characteristics to finished gaskets through the use of color or brand identity. Formulations are available for anti-stick, when ease of tear down is required, improved sealing, and custom coloration. TechCoat is specially designed to accept a silicone bead for this type of application. Available for use in spray and roll coat applications.

HEAT SHIELDS

DESCRIPTION

With that background, a natural progression is heat shielding and thermal management. MTI has developed a variety of material constructions for thermal management applications, some that shield and insulate heat, while others transmit and manage heat to reduce hot spots.
